Celebrating a decade of wellness... The Atmantan Way!

They Just Renamed PCOS as PMOS. This feels like a personal win… Here’s why

An Atmantan Guest

It was 2010,
I was 16
Weighed 75 kgs
Had periods that would disappear for 4-5 months and then arrive like a flood or sometimes barely at all.

The diagnosis was PCOS… Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. The prescription was a 21-day birth control pill cycle, a list of foods to avoid, and instructions to lose weight.

This month, PCOS was officially renamed to PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome). Yes! Medicine finally acknowledged what so many of us lived…

In a blurb:

A name change may sound small. But it isn’t. Not for that 16-year-old. Not for the millions like her.

When I was diagnosed with PMOS, my parents did everything right. They took me to the best gynaecologists they could find… No compromises, no delays. Every appointment, every sonography, every second opinion.

However, the medicine of that time had a standard protocol: the pill, the diet advice, the weight conversation. The doctors weren’t wrong with the knowledge they had. But the knowledge itself was incomplete.

Nobody talked about what this struggle meant for a 16-year-old girl already fielding questions she had no answers to. The mental health piece simply wasn’t part of the conversation yet.

And so I carried what wasn’t addressed… The fatigue, the shame, the weight that wouldn’t move no matter what I did, the brain fog as if it were a personal failing. As if I simply wasn’t trying hard enough. Not to mention the feeling of failing every day.

Fifteen years passed. So did a lot of trial and error. The kind that wears you down in ways that don’t show up on any test.

I’m 31 now,
30 Kilos down
Periods that show up on their own
No birth control pill

They Just Renamed PCOS as PMOS. This feels like a personal win… Here’s why

I came here not knowing what I was looking for. Just knowing that what I had tried before wasn’t working. What I found changed everything.

The First Time Someone Looked At All Of It

My insulin, my hormones, my gut, my mind… All of it, together, for the first time.

The doctors here didn’t dismiss it. They explained. The verdict was clear: Insulin Resistance leading to PCOS (PMOS). They told me that insulin resistance had been the real story underneath everything… The weight that wouldn’t move, the fatigue, the cycles that made no sense. For the first time, I had a map to my recovery.

It was 2010, and insulin resistance, though understood in research circles, wasn’t yet the first thing anyone talked about in a gynaecologist’s clinic.

Food That Worked With Me, Not Against

The food was nothing like I expected. Anti-inflammatory, grain-free, personalised to my specific condition, not a generic diet, not a punishment, but meals actually designed for what my body needed.

What struck me was this: I never felt deprived. And that mattered more than I realised,  because I had spent years understanding intellectually that rigid deprivation spikes cortisol, and cortisol worsens insulin resistance, and insulin resistance was at the root of everything. But here, I finally experienced what it felt like to eat in a way that worked with my body instead of against it.

The Right Training For The Right Condition

The training was guided, and this is where the difference between doing something and understanding why you’re doing it became very real for me. I had trained before. I had done cardio. I had tried. But nobody had ever told me why strength training specifically matters for PMOS, or that overdoing cardio works directly against hormonal balance.

At Atmantan, the programme was built around my body’s capacity and my hormonal reality… Strength and functional work, the right amount of cardio, and for the first time, a fitness expert who could explain the mechanism behind every choice. Building muscle, I finally learned, directly improves insulin sensitivity. It was the most important intervention I had never been prescribed.

Root Cause. Not Band Aid.

The herbal supplementation was targeted, and the prescribed dosage was chosen specifically for my hormonal profile and metabolic markers, addressing the insulin resistance at the root. Not a general wellness stack. Not masking what was happening underneath. Actually shifting it.

The therapies went deeper than I expected, and again, not generic, but selected for what my body specifically needed. They worked on the metabolic and lymphatic layers that diet, exercise, and supplementation alone couldn’t reach. The kind of cellular reset that takes years of chronic hormonal imbalance and begins, methodically, to address it from the inside. It was the piece I hadn’t known was missing.

When General Wisdom Became Personal Medicine

I had done Yoga before Atmantan. I had done Pranayama. I knew what they did. I had read enough, practiced enough to understand the nervous system, the cortisol, and the parasympathetic response. What I had never believed was that any of it could do something for me. For my specific, stubborn, insulin-resistant, hormonally chaotic body. It felt like advice meant for someone else’s problem. At Atmantan, that changed. Not because I learned something new but because for the first time, someone connected it directly to my condition, my markers, my stress response. It stopped being general wellness wisdom and became personal medicine.

Atmantan’s activity offering is vast. But one stood out for reasons that had nothing to do with fitness… Aqua aerobics. I have loved water since I was a child, but somewhere along the way, the weight, the swimsuit, the self-consciousness of being seen in one, had quietly stolen that from me. At Atmantan, I got back in. And something unexpected happened. I came out having laughed more than I had in months. I hadn’t anticipated joy as part of my treatment. But there it was. And with it, quietly, something I hadn’t realised I had lost came back. The pristine Mulshi and Sahyadris did a lot of it just too by existing. The stillness, the structure, the absence of the noise I had normalised, it recalibrated something.

The Nights My Body Finally Repaired Itself

And sleep. I slept, properly, structurally, without screens, without the 2am spiral. Sleep, I learned, is not rest. It is metabolic repair. And for someone with insulin resistance, it is non-negotiable.

What Came Home With Me

I checked out of Atmantan with a protocol for life, not just a memory.

The lifestyle I built here came home with me… The way I ate, trained, supplemented, slept, and spoke to my own body. The real work was what I did with it after I left.

Here’s what I know now that nobody told me at 16: the pill was a band-aid on something that needed a complete relook. It gave me periods and the illusion of management, while the real condition ran quietly underneath.

I want to say this to that 16-year-old girl. To the 25-year-old still searching. To the woman at 31 who finally found her answers…

Our persistence was never misplaced. Our instincts were never wrong. The answers existed… Now clearer than they have ever been. Go find them, with the right people beside you and trust your body enough to give it what it has always been asking for.

With gratitude,
A guest who managed her PMOS at Atmantan
