National Tourism Award Winner - Best Wellness Centre
Most women look like they have everything under control, but we know that the ‘I’m okay’ exteriors more often than not are eclipsing hormonal and reproductive concerns… These thus become central to women’s wellness. These aspects of a woman’s health are part of a larger framework that need to be addressed including chronic conditions, mental health, holistic remedies and preventive care. Each of these aspects, when unlocked at Atmantan, plays a vital role in bringing forth a healthier and happier version of the women, a version they deserve to navigate life in.
Our multidimensional approach recognises that physical health does not exist in isolation, but is in fact linked to one’s psychological, social, and environmental factors.
Women today are more aware of their health, and wellness needs and are actively seeking holistic solutions to improve longevity and quality of life.
Let’s delve deeper into certain chronic conditions faced by women, so we can better understand them and recognise their influence on women’s overall health…
1. Menopausal Issues: Menopause is a time in every woman’s life when her menstruation cycle ceases, causing women to no longer become pregnant. While this usually happens anytime between the mid 40s to mid 50s, the symptoms and age varies from woman to woman. Studies also show that unfortunately 73% of women do not actively treat their menopause symptoms, something that must be prioritised. The condition brings forth hormonal havoc that impacts a woman’s physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being!
Symptoms to watch out for… hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, discomfort during intercourse, insomnia, and mood swings, including depression and anxiety. While menopausal symptoms vary from woman to woman, some experience minimal effects, and others may face severe symptoms that persist for years
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
2. Obesity: Obesity is a chronic metabolic condition characterised by excess body fat. The causes of obesity are multi-fold and can include an inactive lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, genetics, medical conditions like Hypothyroidism, medications, stress and lack of sleep. In fact, Women dealing with obesity are also at risk for hormonal imbalance, PCOS/ PCOD, cardiovascular diseases, Diabetes, and joint pains.
Symptoms to watch out for… Noticeable weight gain (especially around the abdomen), shortness of breath, fatigue, joint pain, and skin issues. It may also lead to high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, insulin resistance, mood changes, and reduced mobility.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
3. Depression: Statistics show that women are almost twice as likely to develop depression than men! In fact certain types of depression are unique to women due to hormonal fluctuations in the different stages of their life… These include Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) which involves severe mood swings linked to the menstrual cycle, while Perinatal Depression occurs during or after pregnancy, also influenced by hormonal and life changes. Even Menopausal Depression can arise with hormonal changes in the body as women approach menopause.
Symptoms to watch out for… Persistent feeling of sadness, anxiousness, or “empty” mood and irritability. Sleep disturbances, fatigue, and changes in appetite or weight can also occur. In some cases, thoughts of self-harm may arise, along with unexplained physical issues like headaches or back pain.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
4. Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis is a condition that causes your bones to become weak, as they thin down and lose their density. Postmenopausal women are more susceptible to osteoporosis. Due to estrogen decline in menopausal women, loss of density is accelerated, also increasing the risk of fractures and long-term mobility issues. In fact, osteoporosis in women makes them more susceptible to broken bones (bone fractures).
Symptoms to watch out for… Osteoporosis is often called a silent disease because it doesn’t show clear symptoms unless one gets specific scans done. However, you may notice signs like losing height, changes in posture (stooping), shortness of breath (due to compressed spine disks), or lower back pain, which can indicate weakening bones.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
5. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): PCOD, or Polycystic Ovarian Disease, is a metabolic disorder characterised by… you guessed it- hormonal imbalances! It’s considered an endocrine disorder, where the ovaries release immature eggs, resulting in hormonal disruptions and irregular menstrual cycles. This condition is most common among women of the reproductive ages, and affects approximately 5-15% of this group.
Symptoms to watch out for… Irregular periods, weight gain, heavy bleeding during menstruation, unwanted hair growth on face, chest, stomach, or thighs (the condition is called hirsutism), unexplained acne, androgenetic alopecia, skin darkening around neck, groin region, under the breast fold etc, or even headaches triggered by hormonal changes.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
6. Thyroid Disorders (Hypothyroidism – Hashimoto’s): Thyroid disorders like Hypothyroidism occur when the thyroid gland is underactive and produces insufficient thyroid hormones. This affects metabolism, growth, and other bodily functions. Also commonly occurring is Hashimoto’s disease, an auto-immune disorder where the body attacks thyroid cells (In many cases Hashimoto could also cause Hypothyroidism). This condition affects around one in 10 Indians and one in five Americans, with up to 5% of cases remaining undiagnosed. It is one of the most common health concerns for women worldwide (more than men), especially with women, over the ages of 60.
Symptoms to watch out for… Fatigue, weight gain, puffiness in the face, sensitivity to cold, joint and muscle pain, constipation, dry skin, thinning of hair, reduced sweating, heavy or irregular periods, in women causes fertility issues, depression, a slowed heart rate, and goiter (an enlarged thyroid causing neck swelling or difficulty in breathing or swallowing).
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
7. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): This is an inflammatory auto-immune disease where the immune system attacks the joint linings, causing pain, swelling, stiffness, and reduced joint function. Studies indicate that women are approximately three times more likely than men to develop RA! This is understood to be influenced by the female hormonal factors, particularly the effects of estrogen on immune system modulation, as well as genetic predispositions, that may enhance susceptibility to autoimmunity in women.
Symptoms to watch out for… Pain, swelling, stiffness, and tenderness in multiple joints, with stiffness being more pronounced in the mornings or after prolonged periods of sitting. Other common signs are fatigue, weakness, and occasional fever.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
8. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): This is an auto-immune condition where the immune system attacks the body’s healthy tissues. It is estimated that 9 out of every 10 people suffering with lupus are women! The attack triggers inflammation and, in certain cases, leads to permanent tissue damage, which can be quite extensive and impacts the skin, joints, heart, lungs, kidneys, blood cells, and brain.
Symptoms to watch out for… Fatigue, fever, joint pain, a butterfly-shaped rash, skin lesions worsened by sun, and colour changes in the fingers/toes. Other signs could also be shortness of breath, chest pain, dry eyes, and cognitive issues.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
9. Multiple Sclerosis (MS): As an auto-immune disease that is more common in women, MS adversely affects the central nervous system. This condition disrupts the communication between the brain and the rest of the body, and over time, it can lead to permanent damage to the nerve fibres.
Symptoms to watch out for… Neurological symptoms like muscle weakness, vision problems, and fatigue, often tend to surface in women during the childbearing years.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest
10. Graves’ Disease: Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that impacts the thyroid gland causing the body to produce too much thyroid hormone (leading to Hyperthyroidism). Research also shows that the risk of Graves’ disease in women is seven times higher in the year (12 months) after giving birth.
Symptoms to watch out for… Bulging eyes, weight loss, rapid metabolism, increased heart rate, menstrual irregularities, goitre, eye abnormalities like swelling and dryness, and skin issues such as pretibial myxedema.
*If you have had or are having any of these symptoms, we suggest you don’t ignore these and have the same looked into at the earliest

As our programmes focus on restoring gut health, improving nutrient absorption, reducing systemic inflammation, and enhancing immunity—key components for managing conditions such as digestive disorders, auto-immune issues, and chronic fatigue, common in women. Our evidence-based prescribed diets help regulate blood sugar, balance hormonal fluctuations, and promote overall metabolic health.
Movement, Exercise and Physical Activity: Regular physical activity is clinically proven to benefit women’s cardiovascular health, maintain bone density, and support metabolic function, improving weight parameters. A combination of strength training, core-conditioning, aerobic workouts, therapeutic Yoga, aqua therapy, Bollywood dancing, Pranayama etc. have all been shown to enhance muscle tone, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. This when adapted habitually into the lifestyle also alleviates symptoms associated with conditions such as osteopenia and menopause-related bone density loss!
Stress Management: At Atmantan, stress management is a holistic journey aimed at harmonising both the mind and body. Chronic stress can exacerbate a range of conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, and metabolic disorders. Our stress management protocols are based on clinical evidence and scientifically-backed and traditional techniques like meditation, mindfulness, breathwork, and ancient movement therapies to reduce cortisol levels and improve autonomic nervous system function, which is essential for overall health and emotional well-being. These have been thoughtfully incorporated into the programme to help reduce inflammation, stress and restore mental balance.
Adequate Sleep: Quality sleep is essential for hormonal regulation, cognitive function, and immune health in women. In fact, disruptions in sleep patterns can impair metabolic processes, increase inflammatory markers, and negatively affect mood! Atmantan’s medically guided sleep interventions are designed to improve sleep quality, regulate circadian rhythms, and support recovery processes, particularly for women experiencing hormonal changes or chronic fatigue.
Education and Empowerment: Our dedicated team provides valuable insights into the various aspects of women’s health, thus empowering them to make informed lifestyle choices going forward.
